Coles Bay / Freycinet

Coles Bay on the Freycinet Peninsula is central on the East Coast, with a plethora of varied activities on offer, it’s the prime position to base yourself for exploring fully the East Coast of Tasmania.

Top of the list in Freycinet is Wineglass Bay, its an absolute must to walk to at least the lookout, but One of the best ways to get a thorough appreciation of this truly unique part of the world is by boat. There are a few ways of doing this, Wineglass Bay Cruises is the default option in this list, but there are other more bespoke and personalised options available, The Aqua Taxi and Freycinet Charters. Of course on a good day Freycinet Air, their scenic flights have no competition. But if you want to get even closer to the wilderness then Freycinet Paddle, its an institution. Then theres All Terrain Tours that take you in through rarely used trails in the national park to the southern end of friendly beaches, the sand is almost as fine as powder, it’s the Bay of Fires without the people.

There are some other great walks other than Wineglass, the 20 min boardwalk around Cape Tourville, (a spectacular place to watch the sun rise), keep your eyes peeled for whales from the lookout. Also the seals on the nuggets, 300’+ granite cliffs, spectacular. And the walk all the locals love, from Sleepy Bay to Mt Parsons, but keep that a bit quiet. The hardest and longest walk is up Mt Amos, it’s not for the feint hearted, and certainly to be left alone if windy or wet, but the most satisfying when accomplished, (all the iconic insta shots are taken from the top of Amos) and the view from the top is 360 degrees!

With all this at your door step, it’s easy to forget why you come on holiday in the first place.

Edge of the Bay and Freycinet is the perfect place to come and do absolutely nothing!

It’s easy here, sleep in, graze, drink and read on the deck, enjoy the view and pass the time, a small foreshore wander and maybe an all important “nanna nap”. Often commented by guests that it’s one of few places that you can come and do nothing and not feel guilty about it when leaving, maybe that’s why we have a very large return guest list.
